Alumni Spotlight

Sarah Bloom

Our spotlight is on Sarah Bloom who graduated from Hillel Academy in 2011! She attended the Savannah College of Art and Design citing “I always enjoyed doing art when I was at Hillel, and I’m sure it helped spark my love for creativity.” After college, Sarah spent a year in Dayton working as an assistant teacher at Hillel. She currently works as a “marketing strategist and social media manager at a family-owned Dental Practice in Columbus.”

One of her favorite Hillel memories was celebrating Purim. “We’d come to school dressed up, and have a Purim party with games and candy.”

We know Sarah will continue to shine as she embarks on a promising career! ⭐️

Devorah Schwartz

The spotlight is on Devorah Schwartz who graduated from Hillel Academy in 2015! Studying International Affairs (with a minor in Business) at George Washington University in DC, Devorah plans to obtain her MBA or attend law school upon graduation.

For the last year and a half, Devorah has worked as an intern with former Mayor of Dayton Nan Whaley's campaign for Governor of Ohio. “I had the privilege of meeting Mayor Whaley for the first time in 5th grade when I was chosen to give her a tour of Hillel. As a 5th grader, having the ability to engage with such an inspiring leader was a profound experience for me.” The following year, she interviewed Mayor Whaley for a project on women in leadership roles. “Hillel served as the catalyst for my interest in politics, and the encouragement I received from my teachers to pursue these opportunities has stayed with me throughout my academic career.”

One of her favorite Hillel memories was learning about energy sources in Mr. Brisco’s class. “We were challenged to create a device that would cook food using very limited resources.” This study came in handy recently when “my partner and I built a solar energy box for cooking grilled cheese and s'mores using cardboard, aluminum foil, and duct tape.” What a delicious way to apply learning!

Best wishes to Devorah as she continues her studies!

Yetta Krummel-Adkins

Today, the spotlight is on Yetta Krummel-Adkins. She graduated from Hillel Academy in 2017 and attended Oakwood for high school. Starting this Fall, Yetta is excited to attend New York University with the intention of entering the College of Arts and Sciences. “I think that learning Hebrew started my interest in languages and foreign cultures, a topic that I am thinking about pursuing with global studies or international relations.”

When asked about a special memory from her Hillel days, Yetta said, “I will always remember the little chickens that we raised from eggs in 3rd or 4th grade.”

Have a wonderful summer and we wish you the best as you start your next chapter!
